Biography

Masashi Yamaguchi is an Associate Professor at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy NY. He received his Ph.D (Doctor of Engineering) degree at Hokkaido University, Japan. He has previously held positions as a Research Scientist at the Research Institute for Electronic Science and as an Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Physics at Hokkaido University, Japan. In the USA, he held Postdoctoral Fellow positions at the University of California – Riverside (UCR) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His research interests include phonon interactions and transport in low dimensional materials, ultrafast optics, nonlinear THz spectroscopy, ultrahigh frequency acoustic spectroscopy, coherent controls of phonons, and other elementary excitations. His research visit to Professor Balandin’s Phonon Optimized Engineered Materials (POEM) Center at UCR is focused on investigation of phonon confinement effects in nanostructures.
